A whirl wind of days turning into months

We have passed the newborn stage and are out the other side!

We have been attending playcentre, Storytime at the library, gymnastics and many a coffee date with our fabulous friends.

It's been a fast journey to get to this point. Hopefully I can get back to blogging more regularly.

I'm planning on posting about some of the ideas we've had and activities we've been doing.

To start the ball rolling I've organised our toys and play equipment. This was vital to our sanity as Sophie had so many toys around the place and I noticed she didn't access many of them. I put this down to being overwhelmed and not knowing what to play with.

I've scaled everything back. I have categorized her toys and swap them out weekly. Here are the seven categories and how I set it up.

- books; see my post on how I rotate her books around
- dramatic play; pretend food, dress ups, doctors kit
- literacy; alphabet materials, puppets, writing tools, chalk board
- numeracy; puzzles, shapes, number manipulatives, materials for patterning
- blocks; Lego, duplo, wooden blocks
- fine motor; connecting blocks, threading beads, pinching tools, tongs, syringes,
- games and puzzles

Each Thursday I put all the toys away and choose new ones from her cupboard. I store each category together so it's as simple as swapping them out.

She loves exploring the new selection each week and usually has a favourite for the week.

This week I have set up a playdough activity as her Nana Jo gave her some new playdough toys and she's been showing an interest in taking food orders and playing pretend to make meals.

I put a selection of books chosen from our collection and some from our library visit along with the weeks toy selection on a book case.

Then I set up a few things on her table. Usually literacy, numeracy and something she's shown an interest in.
